Belle Adair announces "Tuscumbia", due January 19

When Muscle Shoals four-piece Belle Adair recorded their new album ‘Tuscumbia,’ due out January 19 on Single Lock Records, they leaned into their hometown’s musical legacy to create a sound unlike anything that’s come out of The Shoals region before. Produced by longtime Wilco collaborator Tom Schick (Real Estate, Parquet Courts, Iron & Wine), ‘Tuscumbia’ was tracked at the hallowed FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, home to legendary sessions by Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Paul Simon, Duane Allman, and countless others, and mixed at The Loft, Wilco’s home base in Chicago. The result doesn’t so much update the Muscle Shoals sound as redefine it with chiming guitars, meditative lyrics and a breezy, blissed-out feel.

The eleven new songs on ‘Tuscumbia’ were all written by frontman Matt Green, and the album marks a massive leap forward for a band that’s already been praised by NPR for its “dreamy sound” and by SPIN for songs that “glow with a deep, dusky aura.” Both grand and intimate, far-reaching and deeply personal, ‘Tuscumbia’ is a definitive declaration of identity from a band that bucks tradition in search of their own personal truths.

While Belle Adair is rewriting what it means to be a band from Muscle Shoals, the group’s ties to their local music community run deep. Keyboardist Ben Tanner and drummer Reed Watson run Single Lock Records, which has released music by Alabama artists like St. Paul and The Broken Bones, Dylan LeBlanc, Donnie Fritts and label co-founder / multi-GRAMMY winner John Paul White. In recent years, Belle Adair has also served as something of a house band to other Single Lock artists, backing White, Fritts and others on extensive tours. Through this work, Belle Adair finds themselves at the center of one of the South’s most thriving independent music scenes, building Muscle Shoals into an artistic beacon for a new generation. ‘Tuscumbia’ is out January 19 on Single Lock Records, a full track list is below.

Stop by Nicole's artist page for tour dates and more info!  She kicks off a tour with Old 97's this weekend... and we bet she'll be in your town before too long!

John Paul White and Donnie Fritts do Record Store Day

For Record Store Day 2017, we're proud to announce a special 7" 45RPM record from John Paul White and Donnie Fritts.

On the A-side, John takes a turn at Donnie's enduring classic, "Breakfast in Bed". On the B-side, Donnie delivers a version of John's "Simple Song" as only Donnie can.

It's two friends honoring each other on a special release, just for Record Store Day! We pressed 1000 of these, and the only way to get your hands on one is to head to your local independent record store on April 22nd!

It’s been tough keeping this a secret...

For this Record Store Day, Donnie Fritts and I took turns doing each other’s songs. I’ve sung Breakfast in Bed with him quite a few times, and it’s one of my wife’s favorite things I’ve performed. Recording it was a no-brainer. In return, he did a rendition of my Simple Song. We did this just two guys, two instruments. I hope it conveys the familial relationship we have, and the mutual respect.

I love this guy, and am thrilled we pulled this off. I hope you enjoy.
— John Paul White

Nicole Atkins signs with Single Lock

Nicole Atkins has announced her signing with the Florence, AL-based Single Lock Records. The acclaimed singer-songwriter is currently preparing her much-anticipated label debut, GOODNIGHT RHONDA LEE, recorded with Fort Worth, TX’s Nile City Sound, a.k.a. producers Austin Jenkins, Josh Block, and Chris Vivion (Leon Bridges-), with additional mixing by Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes). Atkins’ fourth studio recording and first full-length release in nearly three years, GOODNIGHT RHONDA LEE will arrive later this year – please visit for regular updates.

Single Lock Records is an independent record label based in Florence/Muscle Shoals, AL.  Founded in 2013, Single Lock shot to international notoriety with releases from St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Dylan LeBlanc, Donnie Fritts and label co-founder John Paul White. “Nicole’s reputation speaks for itself, but we believe this record sets the stage for even bigger things in an already remarkable career,” says Single Lock label manager Reed Watson.  “Nicole is a talented artist who is just finding her voice and we are excited about her future. The fact that a New Jersey girl fits so well in our Muscle Shoals home reminds us that the world is a lot bigger than our little corner.  We’re proud to have her on board at Single Lock Records.”

GOODNIGHT RHONDA LEE, a vintage soul album inspired legendary artists like Dusty Springfield, Candi Staton, Roy Orbison and Janis Joplin, was first heralded last November with the release of “A Little Crazy,” available now on Spotify, iTunes and Bandcamp. Co-written with Chris Isaak, the track premiered via Brooklyn Vegan, which hailed it as “a delicate, soulful ballad.” In addition, Atkins’s stellar live performance of “A Little Crazy” was an undisputed highlight of Oscar® winner Cameron Crowe’s 2016 Showtime series, Roadies.

Atkins will celebrate GOODNIGHT, RHONDA LEE and her new relationship with Single Lock Records with a wide-ranging run of live dates, beginning next week with a much anticipated show at Fort Worth, TX’s Shipping and Receiving Bar, set for Monday, March 13th. Additional dates include a series of showcase performances at Austin, TX’s South By Southwest (SXSW), a May run supporting Old 97’s, and festival performances at such annual gatherings at Hunter Mountain, NY’s Mountain Jam (June 17th). More Praise for The Kernal from The Bluegrass Situation!

Today, our friends at The Bluegrass Situation premiered "Tennessee Sun", a song from LIGHT COUNTRY-- a new album due March 3rd from The Kernal.

On March 3, the Kernal will release his debut record, Light Country, officially introducing his breed of smart, often witty twang that infuses that sense of locomotive, gospel-tinged mystery. “Tennessee Sun,” premiering exclusively here, shows his skills at the lyrical ramble, conjuring up Bob Dylan and, in a certain kind of sonic onomatopoeia, a ‘70s-era refrain that just feels like those warm Tennessee rays kissing the skin. “Lettin’ go of everything that I don’t need on my way down,” he chants, and you believe him. The Kernal doesn’t need much to be convincing ... except, maybe, a red suit and a room full of people ready to dance.
